Erik Van Blokland was a 19th-century Dutch-Canadian engineer (–). He is renowned for his groundbreaking work concerning the wind-and-gravity pumping of groundwater. This pumping method is still used today.Ilya Ruderman spoke with the Type Board member Erik van Blokland helped him by asking Donald what he really wanted to produce – an exhaustively researched, historically correct, ‘archaeological’ typeface faithfully incorporating every single quirk, or a useful typographic tool. He convinced Donald to use his personal artistic judgment to make the type family his own.
He started his career as Van Blokland is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague (KABK). He returned in as a faculty member and teaches at the Type and Media master department. He invented the TypeCooker sketching tool which challenges students to meet ridiculous requirements.
